Camp Hope and Camp MVP compete in the annual Apache Relay, a series of challenges that test the physical and mental capabilities of the campers. This clip is an example of a comparison and contrast between two entities. From the way the campers prepare for the relay to their comfort level with the obstacles, it is evident that there exists a different culture in each camp. To prepare for the relay, Camp MVP stretches together as a team, while Camp Hope sits down and waits for the relay to begin. When it comes to tackling the obstacles, Camp MVP breezes through them, while Camp Hope struggles with them. The campers at Camp MVP are skilled athletes while the campers at Camp Hope appear rather clumsy and unfamiliar with this level of athleticism. Despite their differences, both camps appear to have high morale and value both teamwork and sportsmanship. Have you used this clip in one of your classes? Let us know in the comments below!
Heavyweights
Camp Hope is a summer retreat for overweight boys run by a kindly couple who make the campers feel comfortable with their extra pounds. But when tyrannical fitness guru Tony buys the camp, he puts the kids on a cruel regimen that goes too far. Sick of the endless weeks of "all work and no play," the kids stage a coup and reclaim their summer of fun.
